And those who associate others with Allah say, "If Allah had willed, we would not have worshipped anything other than Him, neither we nor our fathers, nor would we have forbidden anything through other than Him." Thus did those do before them. So is there upon the messengers except [the duty of] clear notification?

The polytheists say, ‘Had Allah wished, we would not have worshiped anything besides Him—neither we, nor our fathers—nor we would have forbidden anything without His sanction.’ Those who were before them had acted likewise. Is the apostles’ duty anything but to communicate in clear terms?

And the idolaters say: Had Allah willed, we had not worshipped aught beside Him, we and our fathers, nor had we forbidden aught without (command from) Him. Even so did those before them. Are the messengers charged with aught save plain conveyance (of the message)?

The worshippers of false gods say: "If Allah had so willed, we should not have worshipped aught but Him - neither we nor our fathers,- nor should we have prescribed prohibitions other than His." So did those who went before them. But what is the mission of messengers but to preach the Clear Message?

The idolators say, 'If God had willed we would not have served; apart from Him, anything, neither we nor our fathers, nor would we have forbidden, apart from Him, anything.' So did those before them; yet is aught for the Messengers, but to deliver the manifest Message?

و کسانی که [به خدا] شرک ورزیدند [از روی جهل، و بی خردی و بدون دلیل و برهان] گفتند: اگر خدا می خواست نه ما و نه پدرانمان هیچ چیزی را جز او نمی پرستیدیم، و هیچ چیزی را بدون [حکم و فرمان] او حرام نمی کردیم. کسانی هم پیش از اینان بودند [در برابر حق] چنین کردند، پس آیا بر عهده پیامبران جز رساندن آشکار [پیام وحی، وظیفه ای] هست؟

و کسانی که شرک ورزیدند گفتند: «اگر خدا می‌خواست -نه ما و نه پدرانمان- هیچ چیزی را غیر از او نمی‌پرستیدیم و بدون [حکم‌] او چیزی را حرام نمی‌شمردیم.» پیش از آنان [نیز] چنین رفتار کردند، و[لی‌] آیا جز ابلاغ آشکار بر پیامبران [وظیفه‌ای‌] است؟

Allah'a eş koşanlar: "Allah dileseydi O'ndan başka hiçbir şeye ne biz ve ne de babalarımız tapardı. O'nun buyruğu olmaksızın hiçbir şeyi haram kılmazdık" dediler. Kendilerinden öncekiler de böyle yapmıştı. Peygamberlere apaçık tebliğden başka ne vazife düşer?

Dan berkatalah orang-orang musyrik: "Jika Allah menghendaki, niscaya kami tidak akan menyembah sesuatu apapun selain Dia, baik kami maupun bapak-bapak kami, dan tidak pula kami mengharamkan sesuatupun tanpa (izin)-Nya". Demikianlah yang diperbuat orang-orang sebelum mereka; maka tidak ada kewajiban atas para rasul, selain dari menyampaikan (amanat Allah) dengan terang.

اور مشرکین کہتے ہیں کہ اگر خدا چاہتا تو ہم یا ہمارے بزرگ اس کے علاوہ کسی کی عبادت نہ کرتے اور نہ اس کے حکم کے بغیر کسی شے کو حرام قرار دیتے - اسی طرح ان کے پہلے والوں نے بھی کیا تھا تو کیا رسولوں کی ذمہ دری واضح اعلان کے علاوہ کچھ اور بھی ہے

মুশরিকরা বললঃ যদি আল্লাহ চাইতেন, তবে আমরা তাঁকে ছাড়া কারও এবাদত করতাম না এবং আমাদের পিতৃপুরুষেরাও করত না এবং তাঁর নির্দেশ ছাড়া কোন বস্তুই আমরা হারাম করতাম না। তাদের পূর্ববর্তীরা এমনই করেছে। রাসূলের দায়িত্ব তো শুধুমাত্র সুস্পষ্ট বাণী পৌছিয়ে দেয়া।
