And when a community among them said, "Why do you advise [or warn] a people whom Allah is [about] to destroy or to punish with a severe punishment?" they [the advisors] said, "To be absolved before your Lord and perhaps they may fear Him."

When a group of them said, ‘Why do you advise a people whom Allah will destroy, or punish with a severe punishment?’ They said, ‘As an excuse before your Lord, and [with the hope] that they may be Godwary.’

And when a community among them said: Why preach ye to a folk whom Allah is about to destroy or punish with an awful doom, they said: In order to be free from guilt before your Lord, and that haply they may ward off (evil).

When some of them said: "Why do ye preach to a people whom Allah will destroy or visit with a terrible punishment?"- said the preachers:" To discharge our duty to your Lord, and perchance they may fear Him."

And when a certain nation of them said, 'Why do you admonish a people God is about to destroy or to chastise with a terrible chastisement?' They said, 'As an excuse to your Lord; and haply they will be godfearing.'

و گروهی از بنی اسرائیل [که در برابر بد کاری های دیگران ساکت بودند، به پند دهندگان خیرخواه و دلسوز] گفتند: چرا گروهی را که خداهلاک کننده آنان یا عذاب کننده آنان به عذابی سخت است، پند می دهید؟ [پند دادن شما کاری نابجاست.] گفتند: برای اینکه در پیشگاه پروردگارمان [نسبت به رفع مسؤولیت خود] حجت و عذر داشته باشیم و شاید آنان [از گناهانشان] بپرهیزند.

و آنگاه که گروهی از ایشان گفتند: «برای چه قومی را که خدا هلاک‌کننده ایشان است، یا آنان را به عذابی سخت عذاب خواهد کرد، پند می‌دهید؟» گفتند: «تا معذرتی پیش پروردگارتان باشد، و شاید که آنان پرهیزگاری کنند.»

Aralarından bir topluluk: "Allah'ın yok edeceği veya şiddetli azaba uğratacağı bir millete niçin öğüt veriyorsunuz?" dediler. Öğüt verenler: "Rabbinize, hiç değilse bir özür beyan edebilmemiz içindir, belki Allah'a karşı gelmekten sakınırlar" dediler.

Dan (ingatlah) ketika suatu umat di antara mereka berkata: "Mengapa kamu menasehati kaum yang Allah akan membinasakan mereka atau mengazab mereka dengan azab yang amat keras?" Mereka menjawab: "Agar kami mempunyai alasan (pelepas tanggung jawab) kepada Tuhanmu, dan supaya mereka bertakwa.

اور جب ان کی ایک جماعت نے مصلحین سے کہا کہ تم کیوں ایسی قوم کو نصیحت کرتے ہو جسے اللہ ہلاک کرنے والا ہے یا اس پرشدید عذاب کرنے والا ہے تو انہوں نے کہا کہ ہم پروردگار کی بارگاہ میں عذرچاہتے ہیں اور شاید یہ لوگ متقی بن ہی جائیں

আর যখন তাদের মধ্যে থেকে এক সম্প্রদায় বলল, কেন সে লোকদের সদুপদেশ দিচ্ছেন, যাদেরকে আল্লাহ ধ্বংস করে দিতে চান কিংবা আযাব দিতে চান কঠিন আযাব? সে বললঃ তোমাদের পালনকর্তার সামনে দোষ ফুরাবার জন্য এবং এজন্য যেন তারা ভীত হয়।
