And ask them about the town that was by the sea - when they transgressed in [the matter of] the sabbath - when their fish came to them openly on their sabbath day, and the day they had no sabbath they did not come to them. Thus did We give them trial because they were defiantly disobedient.

Ask them about the town that was situated on the seaside, when they violated the Sabbath, when their fish would come to them on the Sabbath day, visibly on the shore, but on days when they were not keeping Sabbath they would not come to them. Thus did We test them because of the transgressions they used to commit.

Ask them (O Muhammad) of the township that was by the sea, how they did break the Sabbath, how their big fish came unto them visibly upon their Sabbath day and on a day when they did not keep Sabbath came they not unto them. Thus did We try them for that they were evil-livers.

Ask them concerning the town standing close by the sea. Behold! they transgressed in the matter of the Sabbath. For on the day of their Sabbath their fish did come to them, openly holding up their heads, but on the day they had no Sabbath, they came not: thus did We make a trial of them, for they were given to transgression.

And question them concerning the township which was bordering the sea, when they transgressed the Sabbath, when their fish came to them on the day of their Sabbath, swimming shorewards, but on the day they kept not Sabbath, they came not unto them. Even so We were trying them for their ungodliness.

از آنان سرگذشت شهری را که در ساحل دریا بود بپرس، هنگامی که [اهلش] در [روز تعطیلیِ] شنبه [از حکم خدا] تجاوز می کردند؛ به این صورت که روز [تعطیلیِ] شنبه ماهی هایشان [به اراده خدا از اعماق آب به سوی ساحل می آمدند و] به روی آب آشکار می شدند و غیر شنبه ها نمی آمدند [وآنان بر خلاف حکم خدا در تعطیلی شنبه به صید می پرداختند؛] این گونه آنان را در برابر نافرمانی و فسقی که همواره داشتند، آزمایش می کردیم.

و از اهالی آن شهری که کنار دریا بود، از ایشان جویا شو: آنگاه که به [حکم‌] روز شنبه تجاوز می‌کردند؛ آنگاه که روز شنبه آنان، ماهیهایشان روی آب می‌آمدند، و روزهای غیر شنبه به سوی آنان نمی‌آمدند. این گونه ما آنان را به سبب آنکه نافرمانی می‌کردند، می‌آزمودیم.

Onlara, deniz kıyısındaki kasabanın durumunu sor. Cumartesi yasaklarına tecavüz ediyorlardı. Cumartesileri balıklar sürüyle geliyor, başka günler gelmiyorlardı. Biz onları, yoldan çıkmaları sebebiyle böylece deniyorduk.

Dan tanyakanlah kepada Bani Israil tentang negeri yang terletak di dekat laut ketika mereka melanggar aturan pada hari Sabtu, di waktu datang kepada mereka ikan-ikan (yang berada di sekitar) mereka terapung-apung di permukaan air, dan di hari-hari yang bukan Sabtu, ikan-ikan itu tidak datang kepada mereka. Demikianlah Kami mencoba mereka disebabkan mereka berlaku fasik.

اور ان سے اس قریہ کے بارے میں پوچھو جو سمندر کے کنارے تھا اور جس کے باشندے شنبہ کے بارے میں زیادتی سے کام لیتے تھے کہ ان کی مچھلیاں شنبہ کے دن سطح آب تک آجاتی تھیں اور دوسرے دن نہیں آتی تھیں تو انہوں نے حیلہ گری کرنا شروع کردی -ہم اسی طرح ان کا امتحان لیتے تھے کہ یہ لوگ فسق اور نافرمانی سے کام لے رہے تھے

আর তাদের কাছে সে জনপদের অবস্থা সম্পর্কে জিজ্ঞেস কর যা ছিল নদীর তীরে অবস্থিত। যখন শনিবার দিনের নির্দেশের ব্যাপারে সীমাতিক্রম করতে লাগল, যখন আসতে লাগল মাছগুলো তাদের কাছে শনিবার দিন পানির উপর, আর যেদিন শনিবার হত না, আসত না। এভাবে আমি তাদেরকে পরীক্ষা করেছি। কারণ, তারা ছিল নাফরমান।
