So why were there not among the generations before you those of enduring discrimination forbidding corruption on earth - except a few of those We saved from among them? But those who wronged pursued what luxury they were given therein, and they were criminals.

Why were there not among the generations before you a remnant [of the wise] who might forbid corruption in the earth, except a few of those whom We delivered from among them? Those who were wrongdoers pursued that in which they had been granted affluence, and they were a guilty lot.

If only there had been among the generations before you men possessing a remnant (of good sense) to warn (their people) from corruption in the earth, as did a few of those whom We saved from them! The wrong-doers followed that by which they were made sapless, and were guilty.

Why were there not, among the generations before you, persons possessed of balanced good sense, prohibiting (men) from mischief in the earth - except a few among them whom We saved (from harm)? But the wrong-doers pursued the enjoyment of the good things of life which were given them, and persisted in sin.

Or if there had been, of the generations before you, men of a remainder forbidding corruption in the earth -- except a few of those whom We delivered of them; but the evildoers followed the ease they were given to exult in and became sinners.

پس چرا در میان امت هایی که پیش از شما بودند، مصلحانی دلسوز نبودند که [مردم را] از فساد در زمین بازدارند؟ مگر اندکی که [به سبب بازداشتن مردم از فساد] نجاتشان دادیم. و آنان که ستم کردند، دنباله رو [و دل بسته] چیزی از نعمت و ثروت شدند [که در آن به سرکشی و طغیان افتادند] و آنان گنهکار بودند.

پس چرا از نسلهای پیش از شما خردمندانی نبودند که [مردم را] از فساد در زمین باز دارند؟ جز اندکی از کسانی که از میان آنان نجاتشان دادیم. و کسانی که ستم کردند به دنبال ناز و نعمتی که در آن بودند رفتند، و آنان بزهکار بودند.

Sizden önceki nesillerin ileri gelenleri, yeryüzünde bozgunculuğa engel olmalı değil miydiler? Onlardan kurtardıklarımız pek azdır. Kendilerine verilen nimete karşı haksızlık edenlere uyanlar ise suçlu oldular.

Maka mengapa tidak ada dari umat-umat yang sebelum kamu orang-orang yang mempunyai keutamaan yang melarang daripada (mengerjakan) kerusakan di muka bumi, kecuali sebahagian kecil di antara orang-orang yang telah Kami selamatkan di antara mereka, dan orang-orang yang zalim hanya mementingkan kenikmatan yang mewah yang ada pada mereka, dan mereka adalah orang-orang yang berdosa.

تو تمہارے پہلے والے زمانوں اور نسلوں میں ایسے صاحبان عقل کیوں نہیں پیدا ہوئے ہیں جو لوگوں کو زمین میں فساد پھیلانے سے روکتے علاوہ ان چند افراد کے جنہیں ہم نے نجات دے دی اور ظالم تو اپنے عیش ہی کے پیچھے پڑے رہے اور یہ سب کے سب مجرم تھے

কাজেই, তোমাদের পূর্ববতী জাতি গুলির মধ্যে এমন সৎকর্মশীল কেন রইল না, যারা পৃথিবীতে বিপর্যয় সৃষ্টি করতে বাধা দিত; তবে মুষ্টিমেয় লোক ছিল যাদেরকে আমি তাদের মধ্য হতে রক্ষা করেছি। আর পাপিষ্ঠরা তো ভোগ বিলাসে মত্ত ছিল যার সামগ্রী তাদেরকে যথেষ্ট দেয়া হয়েছিল। আসলে তারা ছিল মহা অপরাধী।
