ادریس» طبق نقل بسیاری از مفسران» جد پدر نوح است. نام او در تورات» «اخنوخ» و در عربی «ادریس» است که بعضی آن را از مادة «درس» می‌دانند؛ زیرا او اولین کسی بود که با قلم خط نوشت. او علاوه بر مقام نبوتء» به علم نجوم و حساب و هیئت احاطه داشت و نخستین کسی بود که طرز دوختن لباس را به انسان‌ها آموخت.
