40

وَلَقَدْ عَلَى ٱلَّتِىٓ أَفَلَمْ بَلْ لَا ﴿٤٠﴾

Translation

Saheeh International

And they have already come upon the town which was showered with a rain of evil. So have they not seen it? But they are not expecting resurrection.

  • أَفَلَمْ يَسِيرُوا۟ فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ فَيَنظُرُوا۟ كَيْفَ كَانَ عَٰقِبَةُ ٱلَّذِينَ مِن قَبْلِهِمْ دَمَّرَ ٱللَّهُ عَلَيْهِمْ وَلِلْكَٰفِرِينَ أَمْثَٰلُهَا

    Have they not traveled through the land and seen how was the end of those before them? Allah destroyed [everything] over them, and for the disbelievers is something comparable.

  • مَآ أَغْنَىٰ عَنْهُم مَّا كَانُوا۟ يُمَتَّعُونَ

    They would not be availed by the enjoyment with which they were provided.

  • وَقَدْ كَفَرُوا۟ بِهِۦ مِن قَبْلُ وَيَقْذِفُونَ بِٱلْغَيْبِ مِن مَّكَانٍۭ بَعِيدٍ

    And they had already disbelieved in it before and would assault the unseen from a place far away.
