And [mention] the Day when the heaven will split open with [emerging] clouds, and the angels will be sent down in successive descent.

روزی که آسمان‌ها شکافته می‌شود

این آیه. به یکی از درخواست‌ها و بهانه‌جویی‌های مشرکان پاسخ می‌دهد. آنان انتظار داشتند که خداوند و فرشتگان - طبق اساطیر و افسانه‌ها - در میان ابرها به سراغشان بیایند و آنها را به سوی حق دعوت کنند. در اسطوره‌های یهود نیز آمده که گاه خداوند در لابه‌لای ابرها ظاهر می‌شود. قرآن در پاسخ آنها می‌گوید: فرشتگان روزی به سراغ آنان می‌آیند؛ اما کدام روز؛ روزی که مجازات و کیفر این بدکاران فرا می‌رسد و بیهوده گویی‌های آنها را پایان می‌دهد. بعضی از مفسران گفته‌اند که منظور از شکافته شدن اسمان» شکافته شدن اسمانِ عالم شهود و کنار رفتن حجاب جهل و نادانی و نمایان گشتن عالم غیب است. انسان در آن روز درک و دیدی پیدا می‌کند که با امروز بسیار متفاوت است؛ پرده‌ها کنار می‌رود و فرشتگان را که در حال نزول از عالم بالا هستند, می‌بیند.
