And it is not for the believers to go forth [to battle] all at once. For there should separate from every division of them a group [remaining] to obtain understanding in the religion and warn their people when they return to them that they might be cautious.

Yet it is not for the faithful to go forth en masse. But why should not there a group from each of their sections go forth to become learned in religion, and to warn their people when they return to them, so that they may beware?

And the believers should not all go out to fight. Of every troop of them, a party only should go forth, that they (who are left behind) may gain sound knowledge in religion, and that they may warn their folk when they return to them, so that they may beware.

Nor should the Believers all go forth together: if a contingent from every expedition remained behind, they could devote themselves to studies in religion, and admonish the people when they return to them,- that thus they (may learn) to guard themselves (against evil).

It is not for the believers to go forth totally; but why should not a party of every section of them go forth, to become learned in religion, and to warn their people when they return to them, that haply they may beware?

و مؤمنان را نسزد که همگی [به سوی جهاد] بیرون روند؛ چرا از هر جمیعتی گروهی [به سوی پیامبر] کوچ نمی کنند تا در دین آگاهی یابند و قوم خود را هنگامی که به سوی آنان بازگشتند، بیم دهند، باشد که [از مخالفت با خدا و عذاب او] بپرهیزند.

و شایسته نیست مؤمنان همگی [برای جهاد] کوچ کنند. پس چرا از هر فرقه‌ای از آنان، دسته‌ای کوچ نمی‌کنند تا [دسته‌ای بمانند و] در دین آگاهی پیدا کنند و قوم خود را -وقتی به سوی آنان بازگشتند بیم دهند- باشد که آنان [از کیفر الهی ]بترسند؟

İnananlar toptan savaşa çıkmamalıdır. Her topluluktan bir taifenin dini iyi öğrenmek ve milletlerini geri döndüklerinde uyarmak üzere geri kalmaları gerekli olmaz mı? Ki böylece belki yanlış hareketlerden çekinirler.

Tidak sepatutnya bagi mukminin itu pergi semuanya (ke medan perang). Mengapa tidak pergi dari tiap-tiap golongan di antara mereka beberapa orang untuk memperdalam pengetahuan mereka tentang agama dan untuk memberi peringatan kepada kaumnya apabila mereka telah kembali kepadanya, supaya mereka itu dapat menjaga dirinya.

صاحبان ایمان کا یہ فرض نہیں ہے کہ وہ سب کے سب جہاد کے لئے نکل پڑیں تو ہر گروہ میں سے ایک جماعت اس کام کے لئے کیوں نہیں نکلتی ہے کہ دین کا علم حاصل کرے اور پھر جب اپنی قوم کی طرف پلٹ کر آئے تو اسے عذاب الٰہی سے ڈرائے کہ شاید وہ اسی طرح ڈرنے لگیں

আর সমস্ত মুমিনের অভিযানে বের হওয়া সঙ্গত নয়। তাই তাদের প্রত্যেক দলের একটি অংশ কেন বের হলো না, যাতে দ্বীনের জ্ঞান লাভ করে এবং সংবাদ দান করে স্বজাতিকে, যখন তারা তাদের কাছে প্রত্যাবর্তন করবে, যেন তারা বাঁচতে পারে।
