When two parties among you were about to lose courage, but Allah was their ally; and upon Allah the believers should rely.

دو طایفه‌ای که نزدیک بود سستی نشان دهند

طبق نقل تاریخء دو طایفه‌ای که در این آیه به آنهما اشاره شده استء طایفه‌های «بنوسلّمه» از قبیلةٌ اوس و «بنوحارثه» از قبیلةٌ خزرج بودند. دلیل تصمیم آنها در امر جهاد این بود که آنها از طرفداران نظریةٌ جنگ در شهر بودند و پیامبر با نظر آنها مخالفشت کرده بود. به‌علاوه چنان که گفته شدء عبدالله بن آبی با سیصد نفر از پهودیانی که به لشکر اسلام پیوسته بودندء به دلیل مخالفت پیامبر با ماندن آنها در اردوگاه اسلام» به مدینه بازگشتند و همین موضوع» تصمیم آن دو طایفةٌ مسلمان را برای ادامةٌ راهی که در پیش گرفته بودند»ء سست کرد؛ اما از آیه استفاده می‌شود که آن دو طایفه خیلی زود از تصمیم خود بازگشتند و به همکاری با مسلمانان ادامه دادند.
