Righteousness is not that you turn your faces toward the east or the west, but [true] righteousness is [in] one who believes in Allah, the Last Day, the angels, the Book, and the prophets and gives wealth, in spite of love for it, to relatives, orphans, the needy, the traveler, those who ask [for help], and for freeing slaves; [and who] establishes prayer and gives zakah; [those who] fulfill their promise when they promise; and [those who] are patient in poverty and hardship and during battle. Those are the ones who have been true, and it is those who are the righteous.

Piety is not to turn your faces to the east or the west; rather, piety is [personified by] those who have faith in Allah and the Last Day, the angels, the Book, and the prophets, and who give their wealth, for the love of Him, to relatives, orphans, the needy, the traveller and the beggar, and for [the freeing of] the slaves, and maintain the prayer and give the zakat, and those who fulfill their covenants, when they pledge themselves, and those who are patient in stress and distress, and in the heat of battle. They are the ones who are true [to their covenant], and it is they who are the Godwary.

It is not righteousness that ye turn your faces to the East and the West; but righteous is he who believeth in Allah and the Last Day and the angels and the Scripture and the prophets; and giveth wealth, for love of Him, to kinsfolk and to orphans and the needy and the wayfarer and to those who ask, and to set slaves free; and observeth proper worship and payeth the poor-due. And those who keep their treaty when they make one, and the patient in tribulation and adversity and time of stress. Such are they who are sincere. Such are the Allah-fearing.

It is not righteousness that ye turn your faces Towards east or West; but it is righteousness- to believe in Allah and the Last Day, and the Angels, and the Book, and the Messengers; to spend of your substance, out of love for Him, for your kin, for orphans, for the needy, for the wayfarer, for those who ask, and for the ransom of slaves; to be steadfast in prayer, and practice regular charity; to fulfil the contracts which ye have made; and to be firm and patient, in pain (or suffering) and adversity, and throughout all periods of panic. Such are the people of truth, the Allah-fearing.

It is not piety, that you turn your faces to the East and to the West. True piety is this: to believe in God, and the Last Day, the angels, the Book, and the Prophets, to give of one's substance, however cherished, to kinsmen, and orphans, the needy, the traveller, beggars, and to ransom the slave, to perform the prayer, to pay the alms. And they who fulfil their covenant when they have engaged in a covenant, and endure with fortitude misfortune, hardship and peril, these are they who are true in their faith, these are the truly godfearing.

نیکی این نیست که روی خود را به سوی مشرق و مغرب کنید، بلکه نیکی [واقعی و کامل، که شایسته است در همه امور شما ملاک و میزان قرار گیرد، منش و رفتار و حرکات] کسانی است که به خدا و روز قیامت و فرشتگان و کتاب آسمانی و پیامبران ایمان آورده اند، و مال و ثروتشان را با آنکه دوست دارند به خویشان و یتیمان و درماندگان و در راه ماندگان و سائلان و [در راه آزادی] بردگان می دهند، و نماز را [با همه شرایطش] برپای می دارند، و زکات می پردازند، و چون پیمان بندند وفاداران به پیمان خویشند، و در تنگدستی و تهیدستی و رنج و بیماری و هنگام جنگ شکیبایند؛ اینانند که [در دین داری و پیروی از حق] راست گفتند، و اینانند که پرهیزکارند.

نیکوکاری آن نیست که روی خود را به سوی مشرق و [یا] مغرب بگردانید، بلکه نیکی آن است که کسی به خدا و روز بازپسین و فرشتگان و کتاب [آسمانی‌] و پیامبران ایمان آورد، و مال [خود] را با وجود دوست داشتنش، به خویشاوندان و یتیمان و بینوایان و در راه‌ماندگان و گدایان و در [راه آزاد کردن‌] بندگان بدهد، و نماز را برپای دارد، و زکات را بدهد، و آنان که چون عهد بندند، به عهد خود وفادارانند؛ و در سختی و زیان، و به هنگام جنگ شکیبایانند؛ آنانند کسانی که راست گفته‌اند، و آنان همان پرهیزگارانند.

Yüzlerinizi doğudan yana ve batıdan yana çevirmeniz iyi olmak demek değildir; Lakin iyi olan, Allah'a, ahiret gününe, meleklere, Kitap'a, peygamberlere inanan, O'nun sevgisiyle, yakınlarına, yetimlere, düşkünlere, yolculara, yoksullara ve köleler uğrunda mal veren, namaz kılan, zekat veren ve ahidleştiklerinde ahidlerine vefa gösterenler, zorda, darda ve savaş alanında sabredenlerdir. İşte onlar doğru olanlardır ve sakınanlar ancak onlardır.

Bukanlah menghadapkan wajahmu ke arah timur dan barat itu suatu kebajikan, akan tetapi sesungguhnya kebajikan itu ialah beriman kepada Allah, hari kemudian, malaikat-malaikat, kitab-kitab, nabi-nabi dan memberikan harta yang dicintainya kepada kerabatnya, anak-anak yatim, orang-orang miskin, musafir (yang memerlukan pertolongan) dan orang-orang yang meminta-minta; dan (memerdekakan) hamba sahaya, mendirikan shalat, dan menunaikan zakat; dan orang-orang yang menepati janjinya apabila ia berjanji, dan orang-orang yang sabar dalam kesempitan, penderitaan dan dalam peperangan. Mereka itulah orang-orang yang benar (imannya); dan mereka itulah orang-orang yang bertakwa.

نیکی یہ نہیں ہے کہ اپنا رخ مشرق اور مغرب کی طرف کرلو بلکہ نیکی اس شخص کا حصّہ ہے جو اللہ اور آخرت ملائکہ اور کتاب پر ایمان لے آئے اورمحبت خدا میں قرابتداروں ً یتیموںً مسکینوں ً غربت زدہ مسافروںً سوال کرنے والوں اور غلاموں کی آزادی کے لئے مال دے اور نماز قائم کرے اور زکوِٰ ادا کرے اور جو بھی عہد کرے اسے پوراکرے اور فقر وفاقہ میں اور پریشانیوں اور بیماریوں میں اور میدانِ جنگ کے حالات میں صبرکرنے والے ہوںتویہی لوگ اپنے دعوائے ایمان و احسان میں سچے ہیں اور یہی صاحبان تقویٰ اور پرہیزگار ہیں

সৎকর্ম শুধু এই নয় যে, পূর্ব কিংবা পশ্চিমদিকে মুখ করবে, বরং বড় সৎকাজ হল এই যে, ঈমান আনবে আল্লাহর উপর কিয়ামত দিবসের উপর, ফেরেশতাদের উপর এবং সমস্ত নবী-রসূলগণের উপর, আর সম্পদ ব্যয় করবে তাঁরই মহব্বতে আত্নীয়-স্বজন, এতীম-মিসকীন, মুসাফির-ভিক্ষুক ও মুক্তিকামী ক্রীতদাসদের জন্যে। আর যারা নামায প্রতিষ্ঠা করে, যাকাত দান করে এবং যারা কৃত প্রতিজ্ঞা সম্পাদনকারী এবং অভাবে, রোগে-শোকে ও যুদ্ধের সময় ধৈর্য্য ধারণকারী তারাই হল সত্যাশ্রয়ী, আর তারাই পরহেযগার।
