And We have not made the keepers of the Fire except angels. And We have not made their number except as a trial for those who disbelieve - that those who were given the Scripture will be convinced and those who have believed will increase in faith and those who were given the Scripture and the believers will not doubt and that those in whose hearts is hypocrisy and the disbelievers will say, "What does Allah intend by this as an example?" Thus does Allah leave astray whom He wills and guides whom He wills. And none knows the soldiers of your Lord except Him. And mention of the Fire is not but a reminder to humanity.

We have assigned only angels as keepers of the Fire, and We have made their number merely a stumbling block for the faithless, and so that those who were given the Book may be reassured, and the faithful may increase in [their] faith, and so that those who were given the Book and the faithful may not be in doubt, and so that the faithless and those in whose hearts is a sickness may say, ‘What did Allah mean by this description?’ Thus does Allah lead astray whomever He wishes and guides whomever He wishes. No one knows the hosts of your Lord except Him, and it is just an admonition for all humans.

We have appointed only angels to be wardens of the Fire, and their number have We made to be a stumbling-block for those who disbelieve; that those to whom the Scripture hath been given may have certainty, and that believers may increase in faith; and that those to whom the Scripture hath been given and believers may not doubt; and that those in whose hearts there is disease, and disbelievers, may say: What meaneth Allah by this similitude? Thus Allah sendeth astray whom He will, and whom He will He guideth. None knoweth the hosts of thy Lord save Him. This is naught else than a Reminder unto mortals.

And We have set none but angels as Guardians of the Fire; and We have fixed their number only as a trial for Unbelievers,- in order that the People of the Book may arrive at certainty, and the Believers may increase in Faith,- and that no doubts may be left for the People of the Book and the Believers, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the Unbelievers may say, "What symbol doth Allah intend by this?" Thus doth Allah leave to stray whom He pleaseth, and guide whom He pleaseth: and none can know the forces of thy Lord, except He and this is no other than a warning to mankind.

We have appointed only angels to be masters of the Fire, and their number We have appointed only as a trial for the unbelievers, that those who were given the Book may have certainty, and that those who believe may increase in belief, and that those who were given the Book and those who believe may not be in-doubt, and that those in whose hearts there is sickness, and the unbelievers, may say, 'What did God intend by this as a similitude?' So God leads astray whomsoever He will, and He guides whomsoever He will; and none knows the hosts of thy Lord but He. And it is naught but a Reminder to mortals.

و ما موکّلان آتش را جز فرشتگان قرار نداده ایم، و شماره آنان را جز آزمایشی برای کافران مقرّر نکرده ایم تا اهل کتاب [به خاطر هماهنگی قرآن با کتابشان] یقین پیدا کنند و بر ایمان مؤمنان بیفزاید، و اهل کتاب و مؤمنان [در حقّانیّت قرآن] تردید نکنند، و تا بیماردلان و کافران بگویند: خدا از توصیف گماشتگان آتش به این [نوزده نفر] چه هدفی دارد؟ این گونه خدا هر که را بخواهد [پس از بیان حقیقت] گمراه می کند و هر که را بخواهد هدایت می نماید، و سپاهیان پروردگارت را جز خود او کسی نمی داند، و این قرآن فقط مایه تذکر و پند برای بشر است.

و ما موکّلان آتش را جز فرشتگان نگردانیدیم، و شماره آنها را جز آزمایشی برای کسانی که کافر شده‌اند قرار ندادیم، تا آنان که اهل کتابند یقین به هم رسانند، و ایمان کسانی که ایمان آورده‌اند افزون گردد، و آنان که کتاب به ایشان داده شده و [نیز] مؤمنان به شک نیفتند، و تا کسانی که در دلهایشان بیماری است و کافران بگویند: «خدا از این وصف‌کردن، چه چیزی را اراده کرده است؟» این گونه، خدا هر که را بخواهد بیراه می‌گذارد و هر که را بخواهد هدایت می کند، و [شماره‌] سپاهیان پروردگارت را جز او نمی‌داند، و این [آیات‌] جز تذکاری برای بشر نیست.

Cehennemin bekçilerini yalnız meleklerden kılmışızdır. Sayılarını bildirmekle de, ancak inkar edenlerin denenmesini ve kendilerine kitap verilenlerin kesin bilgi edinmesini ve inananların da imanlarının artmasını sağladık. Kendilerine kitap verilenler ve inananlar şüpheye düşmesinler. Kalblerinde hastalık bulunanlar ve inkarcılar: "Allah bu misalle neyi muradetti?" desinler. İşte Allah, böylece, dilediğini saptırır, dilediğini de doğru yola eriştirir. Rabbinin ordularını kendisinden başkası bilmez. Bu, insanoğluna bir öğütten ibarettir.

Dan tiada Kami jadikan penjaga neraka itu melainkan dari malaikat: dan tidaklah Kami menjadikan bilangan mereka itu melainkan untuk jadi cobaan bagi orang-orang kafir, supaya orang-orang yang diberi Al-Kitab menjadi yakin dan supaya orang yang beriman bertambah imannya dan supaya orang-orang yang diberi Al Kitab dan orng-orang mukmin itu tidak ragu-ragu dan supaya orang-orang yang di dalam hatinya ada penyakit dan orang-orang kafir (mengatakan): "Apakah yang dikehendaki Allah dengan bilangan ini sebagai suatu perumpamaan?" Demikianlah Allah membiarkan sesat orang-orang yang dikehendaki-Nya dan memberi petunjuk kepada siapa yang dikehendaki-Nya. Dan tidak ada yang mengetahui tentara Tuhanmu melainkan Dia sendiri. Dan Saqar itu tiada lain hanyalah peringatan bagi manusia.

اور ہم نے جہنمّ کا نگہبان صرف فرشتوں کو قرار دیا ہے اور ان کی تعداد کو کفار کی آزمائش کا ذریعہ بنادیا ہے کہ اہل کتاب کو یقین حاصل ہوجائے اور ایمان والوں کے ایمان میں اضافہ ہوجائے اور اہل کتاب یا صاحبانِ ایمان اس کے بارے میں کسی طرح کا شک نہ کریں اور جن کے دلوں میں مرض ہے اور کفار یہ کہنے لگیں کہ آخر اس مثال کا مقصد کیا ہے اللہ اسی طرح جس کو چاہتا ہے گمراہی میں چھوڑ دیتا ہے اور جس کو چاہتا ہے ہدایت دے دیتا ہے اور اس کے لشکروں کو اس کے علاوہ کوئی نہیں جانتا ہے یہ تو صرف لوگوں کی نصیحت کا ایک ذریعہ ہے

আমি জাহান্নামের তত্ত্বাবধায়ক ফেরেশতাই রেখেছি। আমি কাফেরদেরকে পরীক্ষা করার জন্যেই তার এই সংখ্যা করেছি-যাতে কিতাবীরা দৃঢ়বিশ্বাসী হয়, মুমিনদের ঈমান বৃদ্ধি পায় এবং কিতাবীরা ও মুমিনগণ সন্দেহ পোষণ না করে এবং যাতে যাদের অন্তরে রোগ আছে, তারা এবং কাফেররা বলে যে, আল্লাহ এর দ্বারা কি বোঝাতে চেয়েছেন। এমনিভাবে আল্লাহ যাকে ইচ্ছা পথভ্রষ্ট করেন এবং যাকে ইচ্ছা সৎপথে চালান। আপনার পালনকর্তার বাহিনী সম্পর্কে একমাত্র তিনিই জানেন এটা তো মানুষের জন্যে উপদেশ বৈ নয়।
