بَلْ فَلَا وَلَا هُمْ ﴿٤٠﴾

Translation

Saheeh International

Rather, it will come to them unexpectedly and bewilder them, and they will not be able to repel it, nor will they be reprieved.

آتش جهنم؛ ناگهانی و بهت‌انگیز

معنای آمدن آتش به طور ناگهانی این است که نمی‌دانند از کجا می‌آید و بر ایشان احاطه پیدا می‌کند. همین معناء لازمةٌ توصیفی است که خداوند از آتش دوزخ کرده و فرموده است: «آتش برافروختةٌ الهی است؛ آتشی که از دل‌ها سر می‌زند.» (همزه - ۷ و ۸) همچنین فرموده است: «شما و آنچه غیر از خدا می‌پرستید. هیزم جهنم خواهید بود.» (انبیاء - ۹۸) معلوم است آتشی که چنین وصفی دارد, باطن انسان را مانند ظاهرش فرا می‌گیرد و شمولش بر باطن کمتر از ظاهر نیست و مانند آتش دنیا نیست که از پوست بدن شروع به سوزاندن کند و سپس درون را بسوزاند؛ بلکه پوست و درون با هم می‌سوزد و در نتیجه انسان فرصتی نمی‌یابد که از آن فرار کند و چاره‌ای بیندیشد و بین خود و آتش چیزی قرار دهد؛ چرا که آتش از اعماق وجودش شعله‌ور است. بدین جهت» دوزخیان در برابر آتش جز بهت و حیرت» عکس‌العملی نشان نمی‌دهند و هیچ راه دفاع و فراری ندارند.
