The idea
Before ي ن م و (gathered in 'يَنْمُو') the n merges into the next letter and is held with a nasal hum. Before ل and ر it merges completely with no hum. In both, the written nūn/tanwīn is not heard as a separate n — it becomes the following letter.
Examples in the Qurʾān
Examples in the Qurʾān
Rule spans are computed from the Uthmani combining marks on the quran-uthmani text (Tanzil.net) in the recitation of Ḥafṣ ʿan ʿĀṣim. Where to stop (waqf) is interpretive and is taught, never auto-asserted. How we count →
Questions
Nūn sākinah / tanwīn before ي ن م و merges into it with a 2-count nasal hum. The n disappears into the next letter, held with a nasal hum.
Idghām (with ghunnah) occurs 3,080 times across the Ḥafṣ ʿan ʿĀṣim text of the Qurʾān (quran-uthmani, Tanzil.net). The figure is derived mechanically from the Uthmani combining marks rather than counted by hand.
Nūn sākinah / tanwīn before ل or ر merges completely — no nasal hum. The n vanishes straight into the ل or ر with no hum.
Idghām (without ghunnah) occurs 817 times across the Ḥafṣ ʿan ʿĀṣim text of the Qurʾān (quran-uthmani, Tanzil.net). The figure is derived mechanically from the Uthmani combining marks rather than counted by hand.
