42

إِن عَنْ لَوْلَآ أَن عَلَيْهَا وَسَوْفَ مَنْ ﴿٤٢﴾

Translation

Saheeh International

He almost would have misled us from our gods had we not been steadfast in [worship of] them." But they are going to know, when they see the punishment, who is farthest astray in [his] way.

  • قَالَ رَبِّىٓ أَعْلَمُ بِمَا تَعْمَلُونَ

    He said, "My Lord is most knowing of what you do."

  • قَالُوٓا۟ أَجِئْتَنَا لِتَأْفِكَنَا عَنْ ءَالِهَتِنَا فَأْتِنَا بِمَا تَعِدُنَآ إِن كُنتَ مِنَ ٱلصَّٰدِقِينَ

    They said, "Have you come to delude us away from our gods? Then bring us what you promise us, if you should be of the truthful."

  • لِّيَسْـَٔلَ ٱلصَّٰدِقِينَ عَن صِدْقِهِمْ وَأَعَدَّ لِلْكَٰفِرِينَ عَذَابًا أَلِيمًا

    That He may question the truthful about their truth. And He has prepared for the disbelievers a painful punishment.

  • فَرِيقًا هَدَىٰ وَفَرِيقًا حَقَّ عَلَيْهِمُ ٱلضَّلَٰلَةُ إِنَّهُمُ ٱتَّخَذُوا۟ ٱلشَّيَٰطِينَ أَوْلِيَآءَ مِن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ وَيَحْسَبُونَ أَنَّهُم مُّهْتَدُونَ

    A group [of you] He guided, and a group deserved [to be in] error. Indeed, they had taken the devils as allies instead of Allah while they thought that they were guided.
