لَا ٱلَّذِينَ بِمَآ أَن بِمَا لَمْ فَلَا مِّنَ وَلَهُمْ ﴿١٨٨﴾

Translation

Saheeh International

And never think that those who rejoice in what they have perpetrated and like to be praised for what they did not do - never think them [to be] in safety from the punishment, and for them is a painful punishment.

قرآن حکیم (شرح آیات منتخب)

توقع ستایش برای کار نیکی که انجام نداده‌اند

محدّنان و مفسران»ء شاأن نزول‌های متعددی برای این آیه ذکر کرده‌اند؛ از جمله این که جمعی از یهود هنگامی که آیات کتاب آسمانی خویش را تحریف و کتمان می‌کردند و به گمان خود از این رهگذر نتیجه می‌گرفتندء از این عمل خود بسیار شاد و مسرور بودند و در عین حال دوست داشتند که مردم آنها را عالم و دانشمند و حامی دین و وظیفه‌شناس بدانند. پس این آیه نازل شد و به پندار غلط آنها پاسخ داد. البته تصور نشود که آیه فقط مخصوص بیهودیان یا منافقانی است که در صدر اسلام بودند. چه بسیارند جاهلانی که آرزو دارند به آنها دانشمند گفته شود و چه فراوان‌اند گناهکارانی که تلاش می‌کنند خود را در چشم مردم؛ عابد و زاهد جلوه دهند و شیّادهایی که مردم را تحریک می‌کنند که آنها را به خاطر اعمالی که انجام نداده‌اند, تقدیر کنند. بی‌شک همگی این افراد و مشابه ایشان» مشمول این آیه خواهند بود.
